Places To Visit - Things To Do On Alaska's Kenai Peninsula:
-
UAF Seward Marine Education Center
If you want to explore the natural wonders of our northern seas, the University of Alaska Seward Marine Education Center is a stop you'll want to make when visiting Seward, Alaska. Throughout the summer you can enjoy and learn from the marine interpretive displays, videos, publications, and occasional guest speakers that are featured at the modern and convenient facility.
In addition to the exhibits that describe Alaska marine mammals, the Seward Marine Education Center unveiled two new exhibits in 1996. One describes the primary coastal and marine ecosystems of Alaska. The other describes commercial fishing gear commonly used in Alaska to harvest over half the nation's seafood.
-
Seward SeaLife Center
Encompassing over 80,000 square feet of enclosed space, the ASLC will be the only cold water research facility in the Western Hemisphere, providing the infrastructure for conducting the ecological research necessary to understand rapidly-occurring changes in the marine ecosystem. We highly recommend you visit the site and make plans for a visit when on the Kenai Peninsula.
-
Portage Glacier
As you drive south from Anchorage along the Seward Highway, keep your eyes left and look for the sign pointing to Portage Glacier. It's well worth the side trip. Although you won't see the glacier from the parking area, there is now a boat that will take you for a closer look.
